The Relay Baton

Story · by Simran · Class 7 · Peacock Hill School, Udaipur

Teamwork matters more than being first.

Simran was the fastest runner in her class, but she was nervous about the relay race. Her teammate Kavya was slow but never gave up.

On race day Simran ran the last lap. Kavya passed her the baton, a little late, and they were in third place. Simran flew around the track and caught up with the second runner... and the first!

She crossed the line in second place. She was disappointed, until Kavya hugged her and said, "We did it together." Simran realised that the race was never about one runner. It was about the baton passing from hand to hand, just like at the Asian Games.
