The Banyan Tree

Poem · by Anika · Class 2 · Rainbow Valley School, Kolkata

The old banyan stands so wide,…

The old banyan stands so wide,
With roots that hang on every side.
Birds and squirrels, swings and shade,
Stories told, and games we played.

It has watched our village grow,
Seen a hundred seasons go.
I hug its trunk and whisper, "Stay,
You are our friend, come what may."
